Make wings flap with this printable clothespin insect craft! Create a butterfly, dragonfly and moth using paper, wooden clothespins and the included illustrated instructions. Choose the ready-to-print color designs or let children decorate the black-and-white templates.

Digital download only. No physical product or craft supplies are included.

What’s included

  • Three insect designs: butterfly, dragonfly and moth
  • Full-color and black-and-white, color-your-own templates
  • Matching paper strips for the moving-wing mechanism
  • Two PDF files: a 3-page template pack, including a cover, and a 3-page illustrated assembly guide
  • Two high-resolution JPEG sheets at 300 DPI: one full-color and one black-and-white, color-your-own sheet
  • A4 printable pages in PDF and JPEG formats

How the craft works

  1. Print the template pages at 100% or Actual Size.
  2. Color the black-and-white designs if desired, then cut out your insect and paper strip.
  3. Fold and attach the pieces to a wooden clothespin using the illustrated guide.
  4. Gently squeeze and release the clothespin to make the paper wings flap.

The insects stay attached to the clothespins while their wings move.

What you’ll need

  • A printer and A4 paper or light cardstock; 160–200 gsm recommended
  • One wooden clothespin per insect
  • Scissors and double-sided tape or glue
  • Coloring pencils or crayons for the color-your-own version
